Dr. José-Paulo Azevedo, Ph.D., is Associated Professor in Water Resources Management & Computer Modeling at the Water Resources Division of the Graduate Department of Civil Engineering / Federal University of Rio de Janeiro UFRJ, Rio de Janeiro-Brazil. He is a Professor in the M.Sc. and D.Sc. research programs at COPPE/UFRJ, where he supervised 60 MSc dissertations and over 20 DSc theses. He also belongs to a research team from the Hydrology Laboratory of COPPE which developed several R&D studies to technically support the implementation of the Water Resources Policy in Brazil since 1997, mainly in the Paraíba do Sul Federal River Basin and Guandu River Basin in Rio de Janeiro State.
Current research interests include: environmental water allocation, multicriteria decision analyses, improvement of water resources management instruments, computer modeling of hydrodynamic flows and water quality, and integration of water resources management with urban planning . JP Azevedo is also researcher of the Brazilian National Research Council (CNPq), has organized the Franco Brazilian Meeting on Urban Hydrology in 2009, is reviewer of the Brazilian Water Resources Journal, and coordinated several R&D projects for the Brazilian Energy Agency (ANEEL), Brazilian Water Agency (ANA), as well as research networks sponsored by the Brazilian Water Resources Fund involving several universities.
