Selmin Burak is an environmental engineer Ph.D., a full-time professor, Chair of the Marine Environment Department of the Institute of Marine Sciences and Management at the Istanbul University. She has a long-standing international experience in the field of environmental management as a whole. She participated/coordinated several international and national large projects funded by the World Bank, OECF and UN agencies in the field of water resources management and adaptation to climate change impacts. Her major research interests include: a) water resources management (integrated river basin management, demand management, water use efficiency, sustainable development indicators and modeling); b) adaptation strategies with regard to water resources management to climate change impacts; c) integrated coastal zone management; d) environmental impact assessment. She has been working in Turkey and on internationally funded overseas projects in Mediterranean countries, Indian Ocean Small Islands Developing States (SIDS), India and Pakistan. She is a board member of the Mediterranean Water Institute (IME), an international NGO based in Marseilles, co-organizer of the World Water Forum and consultant of the UNEP/MAP Blue Plan Regional Activity Center on prospective studies. She is the author of several national and regional studies published in the field of water management (e.g. national environmental action plan, water policies in Mediterranean countries, adaptation strategies of water resources to climate change impacts in SIDS). She has more than 20 papers published in peer-reviewed international journals, books and several technical reports and more than 100 articles published in international congress proceedings.
