Ir. Piet Groenendijk started working as a scientific researcher at the Institute of Land and Water Management Research on the development and application of water quality simulation models concerning the impact of hydrological influences and water management on ecological a-biotic site-factors. His major tasks were the development and application of deterministic simulation models with relation to soil quality, water management, hydrological systems analysis, ecology, groundwater chemistry, emission of nutrients to groundwater and surface water systems. Through the years he gained substantial expertise in modelling of hydrological, (geo-) chemical and biological processes for various levels of integration. His published research has dealt largely with various aspects of environmental modelling including model validation and advises for agricultural practice. His main tasks during the last five years were: scientific research on agricultural pollution, initiation and supervision of a number of applied research projects on emission of nutrients and pesticides from agricultural soils. He also has been or is coordinating research involved in number of FP5 and FP7 EC-funded projects.
